Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How can we help you?

If you have never seen a prosthodontist before, you likely have questions about the services we provide and our role in restoring your smile to full function, health, and beauty. Below you'll find some of the questions we hear most frequently, and we invite you to call Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry if there's something else on your mind.

General

It depends on the work we are doing! For example, we can complete tooth fillings the same day; crowns, bridges, dentures, implants, and other custom restorations will take longer. The reason is that, in several cases, there is a process for each that involves several steps.

High-Quality Dentistry Takes Time

It's also crucial to Dr. Holland that every restoration he places in your mouth is up to his high standards for quality dentistry. As a prosthodontic specialist, he takes time to work with custom dental labs and surgeons to achieve your optimal restorative treatment goals.

The detailed treatment recommendations Dr. Holland presents at your consult appointment have been planned meticulously. High-quality restorative dentistry is an investment in your oral health, and we want to ensure beautiful, long-lasting results.

For example, when delivering a final dental crown or "cap," Dr. Holland performs a series of checks to ensure your restoration is up to the highest standards.

At Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry, we understand cost is often a factor in the decisions patients make about their dental treatment. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to estimate the costs until your consult with Dr. Holland.

Every patient’s dental situation is unique, and, therefore, each has different restorative needs. What may be a good treatment option for one patient is not necessarily the right option for you.

Your Custom Treatment Plan

As part of your new patient consult or re-consult, we create a personalized custom treatment plan after you and Dr. Holland discuss your needs and thoroughly evaluate your dental situation.

We don’t know what your needs are or what treatment is required until then. For that reason, we cannot provide cost estimates over the phone. The best thing to do if you’re interested in restorative dentistry is to call Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry and schedule a consultation appointment with Dr. Holland.

Dental Implants

Dental implants can replace one, several, or all missing teeth. The implant is an artificial tooth root that looks like a small threaded, titanium "screw." It is surgically placed into your upper or lower jawbone, and after it heals and fuses with the bone, Dr. Holland restores it with a customized dental crown.

Are You a Good Implant Candidate?

If you have multiple missing teeth, we do not need to use an implant to replace every tooth! In this case, our prosthodontist recommends using implants with a fixed dental prosthesis like an implant denture or linking them together by a bridge using minimal implants.

Many people are good candidates for dental implants, and the main requirements are healthy gums and jawbone. However, even if you aren't a good candidate now, there are procedures like bone grafting that can make it possible for you to get an implant in the future.

Is a Dental Implant the Right Choice for You?

Dr. Robert Holland is a respected prosthodontist in Columbia, SC, and enjoys helping patients discover their best smiles through restorative dentistry.

To see if you're a candidate for dental implants, please call Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry to schedule a consultation with Dr. Holland and his recommended oral surgeon.

Complete and Partial Dentures

All-on-4 is a technique used to replace all upper or lower missing teeth with as few as four implants. The implants are placed towards the front of the jaw, and a fixed dental prosthesis (denture) is custom-designed to connect to the implants. Also referred to as hybrids, All-on-4 dentures are permanent and cannot be removed by the patient like a removable denture.

How Does All-on-4 Work?

The success of All-on-4 implants is due to their placement in the bone. Our oral surgeon places 4–6 implants in the top or bottom jawbone close to the front of the mouth where the bone is strongest. Two of the implants are also tilted to increase bone-to-implant contact for greater stability.

We attach temporary dentures to the implants the same day they are placed, so you don’t have to go without teeth. After the implants heal in 3–6 months, we will replace the temporary with your final denture.

Why Choose Us for All-on-4

Here at Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry, we pride ourselves on offering the best possible care for our patients. If you would like to learn more about All-on-4 or our other tooth replacement options, please call our Columbia, SC, dental office to schedule an appointment.
