Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry

Technology

At Carolina Restorative & Implant Dentistry, we use dental technology that makes your appointments more efficient and comfortable. And with Dr. Holland's skill and experience, combined with leading-edge technology, we deliver high-quality, long-lasting dentistry.

Digital X-Rays & Digital Sensors

Digital x-rays are an invaluable diagnostic tool used in dentistry to detect issues we can’t see with a visual examination. Having a full picture of what is happening with your oral health is crucial, and dental x-rays provide a snapshot of your dental situation at a certain point in time.

We use digital sensors to capture x-ray images, which is more comfortable for you. Another benefit is patient safety, as digital x-rays emit about 80 percent less radiation than standard film x-rays. They are highly detailed, which also makes them helpful for informing our patients about their specific oral health needs. Viewing your dental x-rays with Dr. Holland gives you a clear idea of what’s involved so you can make a confident decision about your treatment.

Panoramic X-Rays

A panoramic x-ray is unique because it shows us an image of the entire mouth in a single x-ray. The benefit of this type of x-ray is that it allows us to view the head, neck, and jaws together as a whole. There isn’t enough detail to see cavities, but we can identify jaw abnormalities, tumors, cysts, and growths. Panoramic x-rays are taken outside the mouth (extra-orally), making the process more comfortable for patients who can’t sit for intraoral (inside the mouth) x-rays.

Intraoral Cameras

An intraoral camera is a type of digital imaging technology that gives Dr. Holland a close-up, illuminated view of the inside of your mouth. As he directs the small camera over your teeth, you can view the images instantly on the monitor.

Instead of telling you that you have a broken or severely worn tooth, he shows you the magnified view and explains the benefits of treating it. We like our patients to feel informed and involved, and intraoral cameras allow you to participate and be part of the decision-making process.

Digital Impressions

Successful outcomes with prosthodontic treatment rely on skill, precision, and meticulous attention to detail. At CRID, we use digital impressions instead of the messy paste you may have had in the past. Digital impressions are more comfortable for you because there’s no big tray to bite down on while you wait for the material to set.

Dr. Holland simply passes the digital intraoral scanner over your teeth, instantly producing a highly-detailed virtual model of your teeth in 3-D. Digital impressions not only improve your comfort but also provide a level of detail that we can’t achieve with paste.

Nitrous Oxide or "Laughing Gas"

Many people experience anxiety when having dental work done. It’s common and nothing to be embarrassed about—we just want you to be comfortable!

Nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is mild sedation that benefits patients with dental anxiety or who want a more relaxed experience. Our specially trained team members deliver nitrous through a small breathing mask, where it’s mixed with oxygen.

Shortly after you start inhaling the nitrous, you will feel drowsy, dreamy, and detached from the activity around you. Nitrous oxide won’t put you to sleep but gives you a sense of comfort and well-being.

Nitrous oxide’s effects dissipate quickly after we turn off the gas and replace it with pure oxygen, which clears any drowsiness. In many cases, you can drive yourself home from your appointment safely.

Digital Records

Paper records are quickly becoming obsolete in modern dental offices. Digital records at CRID are far more efficient because our team always has instant access to your patient history and dental information. All your files are stored safely on our secure in-house network, where they are readily available to share with our specialist colleagues and other dental professionals involved in your treatment plan.
